Victoria’s festival year has two anchors: city events that use Melbourne’s parks, theatres and laneways, and camping festivals a couple of hours away on farmland around Meredith, Moyston and the Western District. Summer is peak season, from Beyond The Valley over New Year to the Labour Day long weekend in March, when Golden Plains and Pitch traditionally run. Autumn and winter belong to the Comedy Festival and RISING. Below, a festival only gets exact 2027 dates if organisers have published them; everything else is marked as not announced as of 9 October 2026. Festival lineups and dates change, so sign up for the alert if you want to hear when ballots and tickets open.
Laneway Festival Melbourne 2027
Laneway began in the mid-2000s as a small party in a CBD laneway and grew into a touring one-day festival. The 2027 edition is smaller than in past years: four dates only, with Adelaide and Perth dropped. Melbourne is the third stop, on Friday 19 February at Flemington Park, after Sydney and Brisbane and before Auckland. Fontaines D.C. and Hayley Williams lead the bill, with Kim Petras, MUNA, DIIV, Slayyyter, Rico Nasty, Ninajirachi, ADÉLA and Rachel Chinouriri among the others announced. Presale ran on 7 October and general sale on 8 October 2026.
Golden Plains Nineteen
Golden Plains is the March sister event of the Meredith Music Festival, held on the same family farm and natural amphitheatre in the hills between Geelong and Ballarat. It runs on a single stage and keeps the famous “no dickheads” policy shared with Meredith. Tickets are sold by ballot: for 2027, subscribers could enter until 12 October 2026 and new subscribers until 19 October. The lineup is revealed only when the ballot draws, so as of 9 October 2026 no artist has been announced.
Meredith Music Festival
The original Aunty Meredith event has run on the same farm since 1991 and is one of the longest-running independent festivals in Australia. It shares Golden Plains’ single-stage format and ballot system, and the crowd’s “boot” salute for a favourite set is part of the ritual. The December 2027 edition has not been announced; tickets will again go through a ballot. Like Golden Plains, it is a camping weekend: most people stay on site, and Meredith is reached by road off the Midland Highway between Geelong and Ballarat.
Pitch Music & Arts
Pitch is a four-day camping festival focused on electronic music, with art installations on a property at the foot of the Grampians. It has traditionally been held in March, and it ran again in 2026. The 2027 dates and lineup had not been published by 9 October 2026; if it keeps its usual slot, it would sit on the same weekend as Golden Plains, which is worth knowing if you are deciding between the two. Expect camping, cold nights even in March and a long drive along the Western Highway.
Beyond The Valley 2026–27
Beyond The Valley is Victoria’s big New Year camping festival. After early editions in Gippsland, it moved in 2022 to Barunah Plains, a rural property in the Western District. The 2026–27 edition runs from 28 December to New Year’s Day, with John Summit playing the midnight set and Black Eyed Peas, Skepta, Vince Staples, Ocean Alley, The Veronicas, Overmono and Nia Archives among the announced names. It is a camping event, so most tickets include multiple nights on site, and the heat on the plains in late December is a real factor.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2027
One of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, the Comedy Festival takes over Melbourne Town Hall and dozens of rooms around Swanston Street for nearly four weeks each autumn. The 2027 festival runs from 24 March to 18 April. Shows are mostly an hour long and cheap compared with arena concerts, so many people book several in one night. The full programme usually appears in February. Big names often add extra shows once the first ones sell out, and the festival traditionally opens with the televised Comedy Festival Gala.
RISING
RISING is Melbourne’s winter festival of music, art and performance, created to replace both the Melbourne International Arts Festival and White Night. Its 2026 edition ran from 27 May to 8 June with more than 100 events. Programmes typically mix international headline concerts in theatres with free installations along the river. The 2027 dates had not been announced on 9 October 2026. Because it runs in early winter, many events are indoors or at night, and it is the main festival window for music outside the summer touring season.
Melbourne International Jazz Festival
The Jazz Festival has moved around the calendar over the years and now sits in spring. The 2026 edition, running from 16 to 25 October, brings more than 550 artists from 18 countries across ten days. Expect concert-hall headliners alongside free shows at Fed Square and late sets in the city’s smaller jazz rooms. Ticket prices range from free outdoor sets to seated concerts in the city’s big halls, which makes it one of the more accessible festivals on the calendar. The 2027 dates will be announced later; the alert will tell you when.
