Flemington has been racing since 1840 and is the home of the Melbourne Cup, run by the Victoria Racing Club. The racecourse is about 6 km from the CBD beside the Maribyrnong River. On major event days a dedicated rail spur runs trains to Flemington Racecourse station at the course itself; check whether it operates for your event. Otherwise, Newmarket station on the Craigieburn line is a walk of roughly 15 minutes, and tram route 57 runs along Racecourse Road. Rideshare zones are usually set up away from the gates and can mean long waits after a large show. Driving is rarely worth it: on big event days parking at the course is limited and nearby streets carry restrictions.
