About Flemington Racecourse

Flemington has been racing since 1840 and is the home of the Melbourne Cup, run by the Victoria Racing Club. Its flat lawns and open infield also make it one of Melbourne’s largest outdoor concert sites. Over the years it has also hosted outdoor concerts and dance events that need more room than any arena. Laneway Festival’s Melbourne edition is held at Flemington Park on Friday 19 February 2027, and Calvin Harris has three dates at Flemington Racecourse on 25, 26 and 28 February 2027. Concert capacity depends on how each promoter sets up the site, so we do not quote a figure. For racegoers the course is best known for the rose gardens and the long straight that finishes in front of the grandstands.

Getting to Flemington Racecourse

The racecourse is about 6 km from the CBD beside the Maribyrnong River. On major event days a dedicated rail spur runs trains to Flemington Racecourse station at the course itself; check whether it operates for your event. Otherwise, Newmarket station on the Craigieburn line is a walk of roughly 15 minutes, and tram route 57 runs along Racecourse Road. Rideshare zones are usually set up away from the gates and can mean long waits after a large show. Driving is rarely worth it: on big event days parking at the course is limited and nearby streets carry restrictions.

Making the most of a night at Flemington Racecourse

Shows here are outdoors and mostly standing, with no shade once the sun is on the infield. Bring water if allowed, sunscreen and a jacket for after dark. Exits are long, so pick a meeting point with friends before the headliner starts. Check the event’s own bag and re-entry rules, which change from promoter to promoter. Late-February weather in Melbourne can swing from a hot afternoon to a cool, windy night, so dress for both.
