Opened in 2000, the Docklands ground has carried four sponsor names (Colonial Stadium, Telstra Dome, Etihad Stadium, then Marvel Stadium from 2018), and a new long-term deal announced in 2026 keeps the Marvel name. The AFL owns it and plays most of its Melbourne games there between March and September, so concerts cluster in the summer break. Its retractable roof is the big advantage: a closed roof means rain or a 40-degree day does not stop the show. Its position beside Southern Cross makes it one of the easiest stadiums in the country to reach by train. In 2027 it is the city’s busiest stadium for music, with System of a Down on 27 January, three BTS nights (10, 12 and 13 February) and four Bruno Mars nights (19, 20, 23 and 24 February).

Getting to Marvel Stadium

Few stadiums are as close to a major station. Southern Cross station is across the road, connected by the Bourke Street pedestrian bridge; it is a five-minute walk and is served by most Metro lines through the City Loop plus V/Line regional trains, which is handy for fans from Geelong, Ballarat or Bendigo. Docklands trams on Bourke, Collins and La Trobe streets stop nearby, and that part of Docklands is inside the Free Tram Zone. The stadium has its own car park, but leaving after a full house is slow; most people walk into the CBD or take the train.

Tips for a show at Marvel Stadium

The stadium is oval, so end-stage concerts leave some side sections at sharp angles; look at the seating plan carefully. Level 1 is the closest tier, level 3 the highest. Arrive early for floor GA. Southern Cross gets very busy after the encore, so walking towards Flagstaff or Flinders Street can save time. Under a closed roof the sound is louder than outdoors, so earplugs are worth packing for a long stadium night.
